Heart & Soul of NYC

Pete Rock & Red Cafe

music video

In the summer of 2009, K1X hired photographer Kevin Couliau to shoot his first video project, a tribute to NYC playground basketball using a little-known Pete Rock & Red Cafe track as its soundtrack.

360 Creative helped first time filmmaker Kevin Couliau to edit his footage into a storytelling piece, provided stylish motion graphics supporting the film’s “postcard-like” visuals and managed

the post-production process until delivery.

BACK TO WORKS

The film was embraced by basketball and hip hop fans worldwide and organically became the official music video for Pete Rock and Red Cafe’s infectious track.

The short documentary-style film also planted the seeds for Kevin Couliau’s follow-up project, a collaborative effort with basketball historian Bobbito Garcia entitled “Doin’ It In The Park”.

Motion Graphics Stills

All graphics were designed using Helvetica, paying homage to New York City’s world renowned subway signage designed by Massimo Vignelli in the late 1960s.
